To speak of the sea, of the diver, and of the pearl is to immediately conjure a vision of iridescent, pearlescent light. This was precisely the sensation that permeated the opening of Waad Aloqaili’s "Yamal" collection.

The name itself, "Yamal," refers to the traditional shanties that offered solace to sailors and divers during their long months at sea, as they navigated the treacherous space between adventure, exhaustion, and the heavy burden of waiting.

The garments appeared as a sequence of scenes from the sea itself. The fluid silhouettes mirrored the rhythmic motion of the waves, while the selection of solid, shimmering taffeta was an impeccable choice to reflect the glint of the sun on a calm surface.

When the collection shifted toward the sea's turbulence, Aloqaili utilized undulating cuts integrated with crystals and intricate beading to mimic the crashing of white foam.

Each design, through its technique and color, invited the audience to dive alongside those sailors, witnessing the same mesmerizing depths that have fascinated divers for centuries.

The collection’s accessories were a masterclass in reinterpreting heritage for a contemporary palate. The "Hama," a traditional headpiece from Najd, was reimagined in delicate, handcrafted gold to suit the refined, soft aesthetic favored by Aloqaili’s clientele.

Furthermore, the "Al-Mizan" scale earring drew inspiration from the traditional scales once used to measure the purity of natural pearls.

Even the subtle curves of an oyster shell appeared with quiet elegance in the neckline designs, becoming a hallmark of the designer’s sophisticated identity.

One of the most profound moments of the show was the "Um Al-Samakah" Abaya, a collaboration between Waad Aloqaili and the Saudi artist Sarah Alabdali. This piece stands as a tribute to the sea and the coastal identity of the Eastern Province. The fabric was hand painted with waves, boats, and divers, capturing a fragment of maritime memory.

Gradated colors and hand printed textures were adorned with shimmering crystals and natural pearls, while the final touch was a unique pearlescent tassel.

It is, in essence, a piece for the archives.

In a display of technical prowess, Aloqaili presented a couture construction that married imagination with rigorous craftsmanship.

One specific piece featured a bodice crafted from natural mother of pearl plates, meticulously treated and polished by hand to form a homogenous surface that reflects light with fluid ease.

Beneath this, layers were treated with nacreous materials and natural waxes to create a continuous sheen, integrated into the fabric through thermal techniques that balance durability with a soft touch.

The swaying fringes were composed of natural pearl strands and crystal droplets, catching the light with every movement.

Ultimately, Waad Al-Oqaili has crafted a visual landscape that treats the sea as both a memory and a source of constant inspiration.

She has proven that local narratives can ascend to global fashion heights when told through subtle inspiration and impeccable manufacturing.

From a commercial perspective, Aloqaili asserts a powerful presence by offering pieces that satisfy contemporary international tastes while maintaining a visual identity so clear it is impossible to mistake.
